Legal trade will encourage biodiversity by creating habitat
Habitat loss and encroachment, mainly due to agricultural practices, are major global issues for biodiversity. Rhinos require a specific habitat to survive and this habitat supports a wide range of wildlife.
Opening a legal trade in horn will lead to more of this habitat being protected and created, leading to healthier eco-systems for various plants and animals.
In Africa, over-grazing and desertification are particular problems due to cattle farming in rural areas. If communities could breed rhino in these areas instead for much-needed financial resources, we would have a win-win situation.
